Domaine Francois Leclerc
Bourgogne Cote d’Or Pinot Noir
BACKGROUND
All the grapes for this wine are grown in family vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin; so it is basically a “declassified” Gevrey-Chambertin. For all of the family’s higher classified wines, Francois only uses old oak. For this wine, however, Francois sometimes adds a new barrel or two to “Americanize” these personal wines. If someone is accustomed to drinking American Pinot Noir, they will really enjoy this wine.
TASTING NOTES
Pretty garnet color. Black cherry and red-fruit flavors abound with a touch of earthiness on the nose. Those carry through to a medium weight palate. Nice balance between the acidity, soft tannins, and structure. Pleasant finish, too.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Roast Chicken. Hamburgers. Any mushroom dish. Pizza.
